Moth Control in Southeast Michigan

Moth problems in Michigan homes typically involve either pantry moths or clothes moths. Pantry moths infest stored dry food products. Clothes moths damage natural fiber textiles like wool, cashmere, and silk. Both are difficult to fully eliminate without thorough source inspection and targeted treatment.

Moth Control Michigan

Where They Are Found

Pantry and dry food storage areas (pantry moths)
Wool, cashmere, and natural fiber clothing (clothes moths)
Closets, storage boxes, and drawers
Undisturbed areas where fabric items are stored long-term

Identification

Michigan has several species that fall under this pest category. Here is what to look for.

Indian Meal Moth

The most common pantry moth. Adults have distinctive two-toned wings , reddish-brown at the tips. Larvae spin webbing in infested food products.

Webbing Clothes Moth

Small, pale golden moth about 6-8mm. Larvae damage natural fiber textiles, leaving irregular holes and silken webbing or tunnels on fabric.

Larvae

The larvae cause the damage, not the adult moths. Inspect stored food and fabric items for silken webbing, larval casings, or feeding damage.

How We Treat

Pantry moth treatment requires finding and removing all infested food products. We treat infested areas and provide guidance on preventing reinfestation. Clothes moth treatment involves inspecting and treating storage areas, closets, and affected items. Pheromone traps are useful for monitoring.
